What steak to buy for Philly Cheese Steak Soup…

The Ingredients actually are pretty simple .. One thing I do buy from my local Kroger that I hope you can find as well is this Pre shredded Steak for 4.99!

If you are not able to find this, You can ask the Butcher about shredding a steak of your choice – either sirloin or round steak or you can just slice your steak into thin strips at home!

Making Philly Cheese steak Soup…

  • Start by cutting all your vegetables into small bite size cuts.
  • If using whole steak – you will need to cut your steak into thin strips at this time.
  • Heat 1/2 T. of oil in a large pot over medium high heat. Once hot; then add your steak and cook for 6-8 minutes until good and brown.
  • Remove steak from pot onto a plate and set aside.
  • Heat the remaining oil; then add onions and Peppers; cook for a about 3 minutes or until vegetables are tender and onions become translucent.
  • Add Mushrooms and pressed garlic; heat through 1 more minute.
  • Pour in Beef broth and allow to simmer on low heat for 5-7 minutes.
  • Using a separate skillet; Melt butter over medium low heat.
  • In a small mixing bowl- Mix together flour, and spices; add to your skillet and cook for 1 minute.
  • Whisk in milk and cook another 3-5 minutes until it begins to bubble and has a gravy consistency.
  • Mix Roux into the soup until well combined.
  • Slowly stir in white american cheese at this time as well; stir till well combined.
    • I do not recommend using provolone Cheese for this recipe as it will not melt well. Make sure to use either the White american Cheese slices or this Velveeta Queso Blanco cheese like i use in my Cheesy Taco Soup!
  • Add steak and allow to simmer on low for 12- 15 minutes- then serve with large croutons or some added cheese on top!

Absolutely love this recipe! I used venison in mine and put it in a bread bowl. The hubby devoured it and raved how great it tasted. Truly tastes just like a cheese steak sandwich. I had some leftover so it’s in the freezer. Definitely will make this again and also for family functions! Thank you! πŸ˜‰πŸ˜Š
