Life Beyond the Kitchen

When starting Making Herstory a couple years ago, I had initially anticipated blogging about Recipes, Family and the Home. I decided instead to spend most of my time focusing on; learning how to blog in general and our tried and proved Recipes! I thought this would be the best route to take as I was trying to establish a new blog! So now that I have slowly… very slowly… established the recipe side (more Recipes Still to come!) , I am so excited to introduce to you all Making herstory- “Life Beyond the Kitchen”.

Beyond the Kitchen.. I am a Busy, Christian, Wife and home school Mother! On that note… along with our Recipe favorites, I plan to take you all on some side roads of- the homeschooling mom, organization tips, ideas for the home, and family life lessons!

Current Life Beyond the Kitchen…

Growing up.. life was constantly changing in so many ways.. ways that were beyond my control. Sometime the changes was good and sometimes not so good! Yet, I always learned to cope or to deal with whatever life threw my way.

I had determined in my mind; as a teenager, that once I had a family of my own, I wanted things to just be “calm” and “Normal” and without much Change…

As I got older… (and wiser) I soon realized that life without change is not a life at all, and Life without any changes would be sad! For my life, that meant ; the best things that life has brought me would have never happened!

A life without change for me meant…

  • Never meeting new people
  • Never becoming a Christian
  • Never Getting to Marry my best Friend
  • Never having my 3 Children…
  • Never buying a Home

The list could go on and on but … Just thinking about those things makes me feel terrible! Needless to say.. life is always changing especially now.. with the current Pandemic.

“Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change.”

—Jim Rohn

So here we are today with one CHANGE that I initially thought would never happen! We just Sold what we once called our “Forever Home”. We left behind a secluded, 6.5 acres of wooded land and a home that we custom made for our family… to a old Victorian farmhouse right in the middle of town!

Our “Forever Home”

Although we loved our “Home”… I’ve learned that it was just a house and at the end of the day… no where on this earth will ever be our forever home! Our family is what makes a home and when we are together… (Quarantine style or not 🙂 … we are the people that make up our home!

I’ve also learned… Never to call anywhere a “Forever Home”… because like I said; I pray that heaven will someday be that place! Lastly, life can change and God is the one that decides where life takes us and when!

To be honest… we are all just living in our temporary Homes…

Our Temporary Home…

Here we are.. in our temporary house! We feel so blessed and fortunate to have a friend from our Church Family that owns this Beautiful Old Victorian home!

We have slowly settled in and for the most part it has been a pleasant and comfortable adjustment for us… despite coming down with “Corona” in the midst of trying to move! O… and the fact that my children are not use to seeing the road from our House! :0

Don’t get me wrong, this has been a pretty huge change for us and if I’m honest.. I really don’t know what our next steps are from here! Yes, you heard me right… we have no for sure plan!!! 😮

We would like to possibly build a house and make it our new temporary home someday! You will just have to stay tuned to our “Life beyond the Kitchen”, as we try and figure out our next steps and ultimately let God Lead us!

I am nervous, excited and a little scared right now but I am learning that when everything in life around us changes, to just embrace the things in life that stay the same and to simply live life as its given to me.

I love this Shavanna. The next time I hear someone say “forever home”, I will be reminded that my forever home is with my Savior in Heaven. Thanks for sharing.
