Its been quite some time since my last post and I apologize! Things have just stayed really busy for us over the last few months. The fact that we are expecting a new baby this fall has also zapped me of any energy for sometime! Yes.. if you haven’t heard.. we are becoming a family of 5 this year and we could not feel more excited and Blessed! With this sweet news, I would like to share with you a very sweet and southern side! This is my very own recipe for Fried Apples! I hope that it leaves a sweet taste in your mouth after my long time away!

These Perfect Fried Apples have became quite popular with people that have tried them and are a great southern dish to add to your table at almost anytime of the day! You can even make these as an apple pie filling, for apple dumplings or even a yummy ice cream topping! The choices are endless!
Cooking the Perfect Fried Apples
- Start By peeling and slicing your apples.
- I use a total of 5 Cups of apples , this normally uses about 5 large apples of Choice. I normally use a sweet and crisp apple like honey crisp. this is also good with a combination of sweet and tart apples!
- I like to both cut apples into slices and cut each slice in half for bite size bites.
- Melt 2 Tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- In a medium size mixing bowl; combine apples, sugars, seasoning lemon juice and 3/4 Cup water.
- Add to skillet and allow to come to a boil over medium high heat; cover and turn to a simmer.
- Allow to simmer til apples are at desired tenderness; 10-15 minutes. Mine take about 12.
- Using a large slotted spoon; remove apples from skillet and place into a heat safe casserole dish.
- Bring juices in skillet to a light simmer.
- Mix together Cornstarch and remaining 1/3 Cup water.
- Slowly whisk into juices and continue to whisk for 1-2 minutes until it becomes a thick sauce.
- Pour over apples and carefully mix until combined.
- Serve warm!
Perfect Fried Apples
Ingredients
- 5 Cup Sliced Apples About 5 Large Apples
- 2 Tablespoons Butter Salted*
- 3/4 C.up Water
- 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1/4 Cup Granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon Nutmeg
- 1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
- 2 Tablespoons Corn Starch
- 1/3 C. Water
Instructions
- In a medium size skillet ; add your butter and allow to melt over medium heat.
- In a medium mixing bowl; mix together your apples, 3/4 C.water, both sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice together . Pour into skillet with butter and bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat to just a low simmer .
- Allow to simmer for 10-15 minutes or until desired tenderness.* Remove apples with slotted spoon ( leaving any juices) and place into small heat safe casserole dish.
- Heat skillet with remaining juices to just a light simmer over low heat.
- In a small bowl or measuring Cup; mix your remaining 1/3 Cup water and corn starch till well combined. Whisk into skillet and allow to thicken over low heat for 1-2 minutes. Pour over apples and lightly mix in. Serve Warm.
Notes
- Apple cook time will depend on how thick your slices are/ mine takes about 12 minutes.

I would think that they would do great frozen, just make sure to seal well and you may have to add just a little water to your pan when you reheat them.I have yet to try this myself so let me know how it goes! I even have used extra for a quick apple crisp or apple pie!
Sounds ahhhhhmazing. Can flour be used in place of cornstarch? I’m deathly allergic to corn.
Thanks Candi! I have never used anything else.. but It would probably be your best substitute. If you decide to give it a try I read that for every Tablespoon of cornstarch you will need 2 T. Of flour so probably 4T. Of flour for this recipe (1/4 C). I would love to know if this works out for future reference!
What do you do with the melted butter? That step was omitted.
Hi Kim! Sorry for the confusion, you actually melt the butter in the same skillet you add your ingredients. I see where there could be confusion as I wrote to melt it in a saucepan then add ingredients to a skillet. 🤦♀️ I apologize, hopefully it makes more sense now!
What kind of apple do you use? I’ve always use Granny Smith.
Hi Ann! I usually use whatever I have on hand. I prefer using a crisp apple though, like honey crisp. It’s really your preference!
