Perfect Fried Apples

These southern-fried apples are a sweet addition to your savory meal! One of our favorite and easy sides to make!

Ingredients

  • 5 Cup Sliced Apples About 5 Large Apples
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter Salted*
  • 3/4 C.up Water
  • 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
  • 2 Tablespoons Corn Starch
  • 1/3 C. Water

Instructions

  • In a medium size skillet ; add your butter and allow to melt over medium heat.
  • In a medium mixing bowl; mix together your apples, 3/4 C.water, both sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice together . Pour into skillet with butter and bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat to just a low simmer .
  • Allow to simmer for 10-15 minutes or until desired tenderness.* Remove apples with slotted spoon ( leaving any juices) and place into small heat safe casserole dish.
  • Heat skillet with remaining juices to just a light simmer over low heat.
  • In a small bowl or measuring Cup; mix your remaining 1/3 Cup water and corn starch till well combined. Whisk into skillet and allow to thicken over low heat for 1-2 minutes. Pour over apples and lightly mix in. Serve Warm.

Notes

* Add 1/8 tsp of salt if using unsalted butter.
  • Apple cook time will depend on how thick your slices are/ mine takes about 12 minutes.
